Swift Box Building
Help build bird boxes for Swifts!
Thursday 14th February; 14.00 - 16.00
Food Hall on King Alfred Campus
The number of swifts in England has dramatically declined over the last 30 years. The dramatic loss of nesting sites due to building renovations or destruction is the main cause for the decline.
Swifts use holes or gaps in buildings to access a safe space where they can lay their eggs and rear their chicks, but many large housing developments currently being built in Winchester have no provision for swifts.
Luckily, there is something we can do to help. We will be constructing purpose-built nesting boxes to house Winchester's swifts, and encourage the numbers to grow! Sparrows will also happily nest in swift boxes, so why not give a bird a home this winter?
All materials and tools will be provided! You are more than welcome to take your swift box with you and put it up where you live, or you can donate it and we'll have it put up in around the university managed accommodation.
Spaces are limited for this opportunity to ensure we have enough resources, so make sure to sign up here to confirm your place!
