Schools Plus helps young people to achieve their academic potential by placing university students with local schools to tutor and provide extra support.

Schools Plus aims to tackle educational disadvantage and has been running in Winchester since 2014. By sending volunteers into local schools to tutor in teacher-led lessons, or tutor in student-led after school clubs for children, we can help support the education of young people to flourish.
During COVID-19, schools have had to adapt drastically! This year, we aim to help schools by providing remote support, both through tutoring programmes and by developing offline exercises for students!
We offer a variety of different placements in our local partner schools. All projects take place Monday - Friday, when applying volunteers may select their preferences. Placement selections are currently being finalised.
We are offering two styles of volunteering:
We expect at least one term of volunteering, which typically involves 1-2 hours a week of volunteering during six weeks of a term, with an induction before your placements starts. Most volunteers continue into semester two, although you may choose to swap placement to a different school in the second semester.
Our Schools Plus tutors develop skills in orgnaisation, communication, teamwork, leadership and more!
This volunteering opportunity is excellent for anyone who wants to experience working with young people, or is exploring a career in education/youth work.
As part of Schools Plus, each schools has a volunteer lead who communicates with the school. On top of this there are two dedicated committee members and one staff member available for support and guidance.
You will also receive training in tutoring, resource making and safeguarding during your volunteering with Schools Plus!
Volunteering for Winchester Hub is social and you'll have the chance to meet many like-minded people, but why not ask a friend to sign up with you too?
We reimburse ALL Winchester Hub volunteers' expenses throughout the project.
Schools Plus is committed to being an inclusive programme, and encourages all students to get involved. All travel expenses are reimbursed and we can make reasonable adjustments to our activities on a case-by-case basis. Please read our safe space policy here.
We also provide ongoing support for the students we work with, so if you have particular accessibility needs, including if you want to disclose a disability or special educational needs, please do get in touch with Sorcha at hello@winchesterhub.org and let us know how we can make the activity more accessible.
Feel free to get in touch with us at hello@winchesterhub.org with any questions you might have!
