Join the Committee 2019/20
Find out about applying for a role on our student committee
September 2019
Winton Building 116
We are looking for driven, positive students who are enthusiastic about social impact at the Hub! Read on below for more detail about the student committee or jump into the "Apply" tab above! It is important for you to know that with the right attitude and drive, experience is not essential for joining Winchester Hub.
Our Student Committee
Roles vary greatly within the committee, and usually fall under one of three categories below:
✅ We have students leading our great projects
We currently have 5 projects that run at Winchester Hub which are all run by student coordinators. These projects focus on educational disadvantage, elderly isolation, access to drama for young people, one-off volunteering and knitting. Our student coordinators role varies depending on the project they lead but often help with project delivery, training student volunteers, supporting volunteers if they have issues and developing the project with staff.
✅ An executive team leading the student committee
These students oversee the student committee and work with staff to ensure work is on track throughout the year. This requires knowledge of the Hub and how we operate, being comfortable to support others on the committee, writing up agendas/minutes, chairing meetings and attending events. You are the ones that champion student social action on campus and in Winchester. The exec team is usually divided by two roles; one that manages outward facing elements of the Hub e.g. attending events the committee put on, representing the Hub at meetings, expanding our audience and the other role manages internally by coordinating weekly meetings, ensuring the committee are keeping to actions and checking in with coordinators.
✅ A highly skilled operations team
Operations consist of a communications/marketing team and a fundraising/campaigning team. The comms team manage our social media, email newsletter and on-campus marketing. The fundraising team help boost our fundraising efforts by running events and encouraging the committee to fundraise during the year. The fundraising team also lead on our on-campus presence which includes running information stalls and campaigns for international days e.g. World Mental Health Day, International Women's Day.
The commitment made by our student committee is more than what a project volunteer is expected to make; it begins with attending a weekly committee meeting which is 1 hour, where everyone comes together to share what they have been up to, and we also run mini training sessions in this time. We also run staff-led training days throughout the academic year to make sure you are best equipped to fulfil your Hub role. You would also be expected to spend 2-3 hours a week in your independent role, however this is likely to vary throughout the year.
To sign up, use the "Apply" tab on THIS page rather than the individual pages for the projects.
For the 2019/20 academic year we are recruiting across the entire committee. Each role is a little different from one another, but it is important for you to know that with the right attitude and drive, experience is not essential for joining Winchester Hub.
We are also currently looking for students to join the various teams that make up our great committee; these include:
  • Executive Team They help support and oversee the student committee. • Schools Plus Schools+ Coordinator helps place students into local schools to tutor/mentor. The coordinator helps recruit volunteers, train them up and support them throughout their placements.
  • LinkAges LinkAges Coordinator connects students with activities in the local area to help tackle elderly isolation. Similar to above, they work with staff to recruit volunteers, run training, and support them to be placed.
  • Youth Theatre Youth Theatre Coordinators manage a small team of volunteers to run a weekly drama workshop at Weeke Community Centre.
